A Shield For The Vulnerable

🛑 HR PROFESSIONALS, DO NOT READ!

Every good leader has a boiling point…

That point where suppressing anger is detrimental to oneself and the environment.

There is only so much injustice and abuse of power they can stand to witness.

Case in point…

He’s a Maintenance Team Leader for a post-secondary institution.

The organizational hierarchy is fractured from the top down, making it ineffective and compromising to file a formal grievance.

For a long time, his short-term solution was to grin and bear it, acting as a shield from the crossfire for those in his care. Real leaders make the protection of others the priority—even if it means being the recipient of blame they do not deserve.

He called me today because he just had to talk.

He exploded!!

David Banner transformed into the Hulk when there was imminent danger to the public or those he loved. That is exactly what happened here.

There is nothing wrong with anger if it is channeled effectively.

He spoke with raw passion, entirely without fear of the consequences. Letting his manager know how her negative behavior was impacting the team completely trumped the security of his own position.

The culture of blame and manipulation had to stop. It was his deep care for his people that made him willing to take those verbal darts in his back.

He won’t ever have to convince his team to go the extra mile for him. They already know he will go to war for them.

What angers you in the workplace, and what will you be remembered for standing up against?! …
