I Run a Business, Not a Daycare!

Taking people for granted is expensive.

It’s good business practice to treat people well to begin with.

Cue the following scenario…

Business Leader: “Troy, my best engineer just quit. I need to backfill immediately.”

Me: “Absolutely. Firstly, tell me the circumstances leading up to the resignation?”

Business Leader: “What do you mean?”

Me: “Why did the person quit?”

Business Leader: “They took another position.”

Me: “Why?”

Business Leader: “I don’t know. People leave for all types of reasons.”

Me: “They do, but there’s a tipping point before every departure. The signs are always there.”

Business Leader: “Troy, I’m busy and I’m not a psychiatrist. I run a business, not a daycare.”

Me: “Therein is the problem. All you do is run a business. The day you stop just running a business, call me!”

End of scenario.

I’m not Dr. Phil, but I can normally discern very quickly why someone quit after dealing with a leader.

Backfilling a vacated position under a poor leader is counterproductive to my business and the success of any partnership.

Be the reason people skip to work everyday.
