Your Job Search Needs A Makeover – Here Are 3 Tips…

It’s now day 30 of your job search and you’ve sent out over 50 applications through various job boards and external company postings. To date, you’ve only received automated acknowledgements to your submissions with no personal responses from hiring managers. The search for employment can be tedious and emotionally draining. Persistence is key during this time, but there are some practical steps that you can be doing as well to increase your chances of getting that call back from a hiring manager.

Now, here are some tips that will help you navigate successfully through the crowd of applicants for that position you desire:

  1. Leverage LinkedIn – if you’ve just applied via a web portal where you were instructed to upload your resume, you should not stop there. LinkedIn has made hiring managers available & accessible in ways they were not 20 years ago. You should be reaching out directly to them if you can. That personal introduction has personally helped me in my career and I believe it is still an effective way of standing out as a candidate. Keep your message clear and concise. Quickly introduce yourself, mention that you have just applied for a position within their company and let them know why you are a good fit for the position. Attach a copy of your resume as well.
  2. Polish Off Your Resume – have your resume reviewed by a professional if you think it could be better or potentially hindering your search. The amount of applications submitted is fruitless if your resume is not clearly reflective of what you’ve accomplished and how you can add value to the company. Get your resume reviewed today if you would like some peace of mind.
  3. If you’ve done steps 1 & 2, then trust the work you’ve done to date and stay positive!

This list a not comprehensive, but the tips are proven. These steps are quick, actionable, and applicable across any field or career level. If you’d like a free consultation or a copy of our resume template for intermediate and senior level professionals, reach out to us for a free copy.
